There are a number of problems that can manifest from cached data stored on your computer. To resolve these issues, you may find that you need to manually clear your computer's cache of web pages. This is particularly important with our Horde Based DeskPilot interface because many of the errors with multiple login prompts and display errors are caused by issues with cached data or cookie storage.

Here are some ways you can try to fix your caching problem, in order of escalation:

  • Try holding down the Shift key while pressing the Refresh button.

  • Close your browser and re-open it (make sure you are NOT on the cached page) and delete your temporary Internet files (clear your cache). For instructions on clearing your cache, see the section below How to clear the cache in commonly used browsers.

  • Restart your computer.

  • Set your browser to automatically update cached pages. For example, in Internet Explorer:

    1. Go to Tools > Internet Options > General.

    2. Under Browsing History, click the Settings button.

    3. Under Check for newer versions of stored pages, select Every time I visit the webpage.

  • Use an alternative URL for the same location. For example, if you are going to, you might go to your IP address instead. If you don't know any alternative URLS, ask Technical Support to provide you with one. Be sure to tell them exactly which URL you are using.

  • Use a different browser (if you use IE, try Firefox, and vice versa).

Instructions for clearing the cache of some common browsers are listed below. If you do not see your browser listed below, please contact your software vendor for instructions on how to clear the cache.

If none of the steps above solve the problem, check with your ISP or MIS department and make sure they are not caching it. If your ISP is caching the page and they refuse to change or refresh it, you may want to consider a new ISP. It can be very difficult to perform certain activities on the web if you can't see the current version of the page.

How to clear the cache in commonly used browsers

Clearing the cache in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 and Internet Explorer 8.0

  1. Open your browser and click the Safety menu. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl+Shift+Delete to open the Delete Browsing History window (and skip step 2).
  2. Click Delete Browsing History.
  3. Select Temporary Internet Files.
  4. Click the Delete button near the bottom of the window to delete your temporary files (i.e. clear your cache).
  5. If you want the browser to automatically clear the cache whenever you close it, click the Advanced tab. Under Security, click to select the box next to the option Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed.

Clearing the cache in Mozilla Firefox 3.5 and up

  1. Open your browser and click Tools on the menu.
  2. Click Clear Recent History. Alternatively, you can access this menu directly by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Delete.
  3. In the Time range to clear box, select Everything.
  4. If Details is not expanded, click the arrow to expand it.
  5. Under Details, select only Cache and clear all the other checkboxes.
  6. Click the Clear Now button.

Clearing the cache in Safari for Mac OS X

  1. Once your browser is open, click the Safari menu and select Empty Cache.
  2. Click Empty Cache.

Clearing the cache in Safari for Windows

  1. Once your browser is open, click the Edit menu and select Empty Cache.
  2. Click Empty.

Clearing the cache in Google Chrome

  1. Open your browser. On the Tools menu, select Options. (To open the Tools menu, click the tool icon in the upper-right corner.)
  2. On the Under the Hood tab, select Clear browsing data.
  3. Select the Empty the cache checkbox.
  4. If you do not want to delete cookies, saved passwords, or other data, clear those checkboxes in the list.
  5. Under Clear data from this period, select the time period to delete cached information for. (If you aren't sure which time period to choose, select Everything.)
  6. Click the Clear Browsing Data button.

Clearing the cache in Opera

  1. Once your browser is open, select the Tools menu and click Delete private data.
  2. Click the details button.
  3. If you do not want to delete cookies, saved passwords, or other data, clear those checkboxes in the list.
  4. Press Delete.

Clearing the cache in Nintendo DSi browser

  1. Go to History and touch Delete All. This is accessible from the Start page (press start button) and the extended toolbar.
  2. Go to the Start page again and touch Settings.
  3. Scroll down until you find Delete Cookies and touch that.

Clearing the cache in SlimBrowser

  1. Once your browser is open, select the Tools menu and click Privacy
  2. Select Clean Trace
  3. Click Clean All Trace to empty the cache, cookies and other data.
