Note: we recommend creating a new identity before setting up a new account. Read the Knowledge Base article on How To Manage Outlook 2011 Identities for more information.

Setup instructions for:

To set up Outlook 2011 for Mac to connect to Exchange mailbox:

  1. Open Outlook and navigate to Tools > Accounts.

  2. In the Accounts window, click the plus sign + in the lower left-hand corner and choose Exchange.

  3. In the new window, fill in the following fields, then click on Add Account.
    • E-mail address: Enter your primary email address (UPN) for your Exchange mailbox.
    • Method: Select User Name and Password.
    • User name (use one of the following):
         A. Type your mailbox username in Domain\Username format. Read the Knowledge Base article on What Is My Username And Primary E-mail Address For My Exchange Mailbox? for more information.
         B. Type your primary email address.
    • Password: Type your mailbox password.

  4. Outlook will attempt to determine settings for the new Exchange account automatically. 

    For this step, the instructions depend on whether you have Autodiscover record set up:

    • If an Autodiscover record is configured for the domain name, Outlook will determine settings automatically. You will get a prompt such as the one below. Select the option Always use my response for this server and click Allow.

      Important: you will still need to configure Directory Service to perform Global Address List lookups. Please skip to step 5.

    • If no Autodiscover record exists for the domain, Outlook 2011 will prompt you for the server name. To find out the correct server name:
      • Exchange 2010/2013: In HostPilot, navigate to Home > Exchange servers and settings > Set up email client > Outlook for Mac. It should be similar to where is your Exchange Proxy Server and west. or east. depends on your Default Exchange Server (you can look it up on the HostPilot > Get Started page, under Advanced settings).

  5. To perform Global Address List lookups, you need to configure Directory Service. To do this, navigate to Outlook > Tools > Accounts and click the button in the lower left-hand corner of the window and select Directory Service.

    Specify Directory service settings: 
    • Make sure that the Override default port and Use SSL to connect (recommended) options are checked.
    • Change the port number to 636.
    • Specify LDAP server: > click Add account
    • Navigate to Authentication and change it to User Name and Password
      • Username: only Distinguished Names (DNs) are supported. 
        E.g: CN=mailbox@ExchangeAccountUserame,OU=AccountName,OU=hosting,DC=exchXXX,DC=serverpod,DC=net
        Note: Make sure you replace AccountUsame with your actual Account Username.
      • Password: regular end-user password for the mailbox.
      Click Advanced
    • Type in your Search Base and click OK.

      • Exchange 2010/2013/2016:
        See the following table. The correct values depend on the Exchange Domain your account is located on.

      • For the search base value, make sure to replace ExchangeAccountUsername with the name of your Exchange account with Intermedia. The account name can be found in HostPilot > Get Started > Account.
      • When the account is set up using Autodiscover, the LDAP Server value needs to be corrected as well.
  6. Click on OK.

Office 365 mailbox:

If automatic setup isn't working for you, mail clients can be set up manually. Follow the instructions for automatic setup but, since the server name won't be detected automatically, use the following one for Outlook for Mac:

Note: Outlook 2011 downloaded from the HostPilotĀ® Control Panel or My Services does not require product key.
If you have MS Office 2011 installed on your Mac or Outlook 2011 is prompting for a product key, please follow the below steps:

  1. Uninstall MS Office 2011.
  2. Install Outlook 2011 downloaded from HostPilot as a stand-alone version and configure the account.
  3. Install MS Office 2011 back if needed.

Important: before uninstalling MS Office 2011, make sure that you have a product key and an installation disc/package available.
