Intermedia offers 3 different types of mailboxes on Exchange 2010/2013/2016/2019 hosting accounts:

Exchange Mailboxes

Exchange mailbox can contain 3 types of data:

  • mail
  • contacts
  • calendar items

This data is synchronized between the server and any mail client configured to connect to the mailbox. Exchange mailbox can be accessed via different protocols. Depending on the protocol you are using to connect to the mailbox, different features will be supported:

  • MAPI
    • direct live connection to the mail server;
    • shared Inbox, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Notes and Free/Busy information for scheduling, Public Folders;
    • Out of Office Assistant;
    • Server-side rules and alerts;
    • Optional server-side spam management;
  • IMAP - direct live connection to the mail server
  • POP - send/receive mail only

POP/IMAP Mailboxes

POP/IMAP mailboxes can only be purchased as a package. The availability of POP/IMAP mailboxes on the account depends on the plan.

POP/IMAP mailbox contains mail data only, and, overall, the functionality is much more limited compared to Exchange (for example, all features available for an Exchange mailbox (via MAPI) are not supported)

Mailbox can be accessed via POP or IMAP protocols and via webmail which is called RoundCube. For more information about most common webmail features, read the Knowledge Base article on Using Webmail For POP/IMAP Mailboxes.

POP/IMAP mailbox can be managed via My Services and HostPilotĀ® Control Panel. The following features are supported:

  • enabling forwarding;
  • adding a mailbox to a Distribution List;
  • setting up auto-replies;
  • hiding a mailbox from the address book;
  • storage management

OWA-Only Mailboxes

OWA-only mailbox has all the same functionality as an Exchange mailbox besides desktop client availability, making it accessible only via Outlook Web Access.

Note: you can connect your Outlook client to an OWA-only mailbox using IMAP/SMTP or POP/SMTP protocols or EWS.

  • Outlook Backup
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server 10
  • Custom Retention Policies

Note: Full Access or Send As permissions cannot be applied to OWA-Only mailboxes.
