This process is for Hosted PBX 2.0 accounts only.

Emergency 911 Services (including Enhanced 911 or E911) provided by Intermedia Voice may differ from the emergency calling services provided by a traditional telephone company. These differences may have an adverse impact upon the ability or timeliness of the provision of 911 services to you or others in the event of an emergency. In addition, due to limitations on technology, the location reported by Intermedia Voice to the public safety dispatcher for your telephones may not include a user’s specific location within a business premise. For this reason, it is important that you carefully follow the instructions below.

Process

  1. Log into your HostPilot and navigate to Services > SIP-T & PBX 2.0 > Numbers & Extensions, then select the phone number of the device you need to update.

    Voice Services
  2. Select the 911 address tab and complete the address fields.

    Note:
911 can only be updated on phones. Services like Auto Attendants and WebFax do not support 911. Be sure to check the I have read and understood the 911 Policy and limitations box. Save your changes.

Testing e911 service

Changes made to the 911 address take place immediately and testing isn't necessary. If HostPilot allowed you to save an address, then it should be functional. However, if you still would like to place a test 911 call, be noted that states may vary on how they handle testing e911 and penalties can be imposed for calling when there is not an emergency, even for testing purposes.

Before placing a test call:

  • familiarize yourself with local regulations
  • coordinate with your PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point)

When placing a test 911 call, always state “this is a test as we are turning up a new phone system”.
