Below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions regarding our Fax via Email service:
Q: How do I use this service?
When you created your fax number, you also set up an email address for that number. That email address will receive a message with an attached PDF version of all faxes sent to the fax number assigned to it. You can then view the fax by opening the attached PDF with your PDF viewer software. Read the Knowledge Base article on Fax via Email services for more information.
Q: What should I do if my fax number is busy or not answering?
If your fax number is busy or not answering, please verify that you are using the correct fax number. This can be found in HostPilot > Services > Fax via Email. If the number is correct, please report the issue to Intermedia Support by opening a case in HostPilot > Support (the Support link is in the top right corner).
Q: What should I do if my faxes are not being sent to the email address I provided?
If you find that some faxes are not being received at your mailbox, please verify that you are using the correct fax number, and that the email address you have associated with that number is set correctly. You can check this information in HostPilot > Services > Fax via E-mail > click the fax number. If all the information looks correct, you may want to check your Junk Email folder or Spam folder in your email client to make sure the faxes have not been filtered into one of these folders. If the faxes are still missing, please report the issue to Intermedia Support by opening a case in HostPilot > Support (the Support link is in the top right corner).
Q: What should I do if my faxes are missing pages?
If your faxes are missing pages, you can verify how many pages were received by our service in HostPilot > Services > Fax via Email > view Pages Used column or click View Report . If the number of pages shown in HostPilot is also less than expected, please ask the sender to re-send the fax, as this indicates that the sender's fax machine did not transmit all the pages.
If the page count is correct in HostPilot, but the PDF is missing pages, please report the issue to Intermedia Support by opening a case in HostPilot > Support (the Support link is in the top right corner).
Q: What should I do if my faxes are truncated?
If the pages are truncated, please have the sender attempt to send you the fax a second time. If the issue persists, please report the issue to Intermedia Support by opening a case in HostPilot > Support (the Support link is in the top right corner).
Q: What happens if someone sends a fax on "Legal" sized paper?
If a fax is sent to you and the original document was on "Legal" sized paper, our service will convert this to a "Standard" paper size. The PDF will show each page, slightly compressed, that was on the original "Legal" sized document.
If you need to print this PDF, please make sure that you use the "Fit to Page" setting for your printer. This will ensure that the entire page is properly compressed to fit onto a single "Standard" size page. If you do not select this option, your PDF will print it; however, the last few lines will not be included due to the difference in size between "Standard" and "Legal" sized paper.
Q: Why did you select the PDF format?
While there are many other formats (both documents and images) that could have been used, PDF viewers are available for all operating systems and are not platform-dependent. PDFs allow us to provide a compatible format for all our customers without requiring any custom software to be installed to use our service.
Q: Is it possible to send faxes using this service?
No, Fax via Email service is designed to only receive faxes. Our new SmartFax Pro service allows both sending and receiving faxes.
Q: Is it possible to reject or automatically block faxes from specific numbers?
No, there is no function to filter specific faxes using the Fax to Email product at this time.
