In order to access your email or web server hosted by Intermedia, you will need to ensure that your DNS is correctly configured. This document will walk you through the entire process from purchasing a domain to loading your website or mailbox on Intermedia servers once your DNS is in place. Depending on what steps you have already completed, you may want to skip ahead to the point in the process where you are at.

Purchase and register your desired domain with a domain registrar.
Once you have registered the domain name, you can set up a new virtual server using the Create Account page, specifying your new domain(s) in step 4, or by following the steps in section 2 of this article. You can start using your virtual server immediately after setup by using the IP address or default system domain name assigned to you account, there is no need to wait for the Internic database to update.
Once you have purchased your domain name, you should add it to your account. Log in to HostPilot Control Panel, and navigate to 'Domain Names > Add New Domain'. In the box, type in your domain name, and click "Add Domain" to add the domain to your account.
To ensure that anyone trying to access your website or send you mail knows that Intermedia hosts your website or mail server, your DNS records need to contain certain information that lets the Internet know where to find you. The fastest and easiest way is to use Intermedia for your authoritative name servers.

If you already have your domain setup elsewhere, or have another provider that you are using for DNS, you do not have to switch your authoritative DNS servers to Intermedia. You can update your records with your current DNS provider. In order to do this, you should log in to HostPilot Control Panel and navigate to 'Domain Names > Domains Manager' and click on your domain. Here you will be able to see all the DNS records we have created for your domain. You will need to add these records with your current DNS provider. Please note that although not all records are required, we highly recommend that you create them exactly as you see them in HostPilot Control Panel to ensure that your domain will function properly.
Once you have made the changes to your DNS, either by switching your authoritative name servers or updating your records, you will need to allow time for DNS propagation to complete. A quick explanation of DNS propagation is that it is the process by which DNS servers on the Internet update their information. In most cases, DNS propagation can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, so you may not instantly see any updates you make.
