This article describes the steps for setting up an Exchange email account on an iPhone.
Note: Intermedia does not support POP/IMAP connections on iPhone; we can only provide you with the correct settings to configure it.
Add an email account on the iPhone:
4. On the next screen and then select IMAP and provide:
Note: Your ISP may have blocked SMTP traffic through port 25 in your area. If this is the case, add ":465" (without quotes) to the end of your Outgoing Mail Server Host Name, like this:
This will ensure that outgoing SMTP traffic will go through alternate port 465 instead.
5. Complete the setup process. Click SAVE and wait for the iPhone to test your incoming and outgoing mail settings and connect to your mailbox.
Note: SMTP Relay is enabled for all Exchange accounts by default, and there is no way to disable it.
Note: The iPhone follows the IMAP protocol, which means that it marks messages for deletion, instead of deleting them immediately. By default, when you create an IMAP or Exchange account on the iPhone, messages you delete are not ever actually purged from the server. The effect of this is that messages you delete on the iPhone don't disappear from your Exchange mailbox when you view it using Outlook, Entourage, or OWA.
To change this behavior:
- From the Home screen, choose Settings > Mail > Accounts.
- Choose your Exchange/IMAP account.
- Tap Advanced and tap Remove, then choose a time when you want deleted messages to be removed permanently from the iPhone: after one day, one week, or one month. Your deleted messages will be removed from the server according to the interval you set on the device.
