Important: if you're using the WebDAV tool for SharePoint migration, make sure the libraries and folders are named exactly as the old site prior to uploading the data into the new SharePoint site.

WebDAV stands for Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning. It is a set of extensions to the HTTP protocol which allows users to collaboratively edit and manage files on remote web servers.

To create a WebDav connection to your hosted web server please take the following steps:

For Windows 8:

    • Open My Computer folder. Click the Computer tab and select Map Network Drive.
      .
    • When the Map Network Drive wizard appears, enter your domain name or IP address of your web server (For eg: http://domainname.com) then click Finish.

  • You will be prompted for username and password:
    • If your account is on Windows 2008 platform, please use the user name (UPN) of your default web server user and the password of this user (for example: myaccount@myaccount.serveronline.net). You can view your default web server user in HostPilot at 'Users' page.
    • If your account is on Windows 2003/2000 platform, please use credentials of your existing Site User. You can view your existing site users in HostPilot at 'Web/FTP Server > Web Server > Site Users' page.

Once these steps have been completed, the networked drive should open in Windows Explorer.

For Windows Vista/Windows 7:

  • Open the Map Network Drive wizard. This can be accomplished by using one of the following methods:
    • Opening a folder in Windows Explorer and clicking Tools, then Map Network Drive.


    • Opening the Network and Sharing Center in the Windows Control Panel and clicking Tools, then Map Network Drive.


    • Right-clicking on the desktop icons for Computer or Network, then clicking Map Network Drive.

  • When the Map Network Drive wizard appears, enter your domain name or IP address of your web server (For eg: http://domainname.com) then click Finish.


  • You will be prompted for username and password:
    • If your account is on Windows 2008 platform, please use the user name (UPN) of your default web server user and the password of this user (for example: myaccount@myaccount.serveronline.net). You can view your default web server user in HostPilot at 'Users' page.
    • If your account is on Windows 2003/2000 platform, please use credentials of your existing Site User. You can view your existing site users in HostPilot at 'Web/FTP Server > Web Server > Site Users' page.

Once these steps have been completed, the networked drive should open in Windows Explorer.

For Windows XP:

  • Open Windows Explorer. Double click My Network Places.
  • Double-click Add Network Place.
  • Click Next.
  • Choose Choose another network location option and click Next.
  • Enter your domain name or IP address of your web server (For eg: http://domainname.com) and click Next.

  • You will be prompted for username and password:
    • If your account is on Windows 2008 platform, please use the user name (UPN) of your default web server user and the password of this user (for example: myaccount@myaccount.serveronline.net). You can view your default web server user in HostPilot at 'Users' page.
    • If your account is on Windows 2003/2000 platform, please use credentials of your existing Site User. You can view your existing site users in HostPilot at 'Web/FTP Server > Web Server > Site Users' page.
  • Give a name for the connection and click "Next".
  • Click "Finish".

To make a connection go to My Network Places and double click the connection you created.

To publish your web site using WebDav connection via Microsoft Expression Web please take the following steps:

  • Open File and click Publish Site.

  • Select WebDav and enter your domain name or IP address of your web server (For eg: http://domainname.com)  into Remote Web site location and click OK.

  • You will be prompted for username and password:
    • If your account is on Windows 2008 platform, please use the user name (UPN) of your default web server user and the password of this user (for example: myaccount@myaccount.serveronline.net). You can view your default web server user in HostPilot at 'Users' page.
    • If your account is on Windows 2003/2000 platform, please use credentials of your existing Site User. You can view your existing site users in HostPilot at 'Web/FTP Server > Web Server > Site Users' page.
