Note: to make your website using database hosted on new MSSQL Server you will need to update ODBC Data Sources (DSN) or change IP address of MSSQL Server in your scripts.

Upgrading MSSQL Sever on your account

  1. Create a backup of the source MSSQL Server database and download it to your FTP Server:
    • Navigate to HostPilot > MSSQL 2000/2005 Server > Databases;
    • Click on the name of the database you would like to migrate;
    • Specify name for the backup and press Backup button;
    • Select the radio button next to newly created backup file and press Download buttom to place the backup file to your FTP server
  2. Install a target MSSQL 2008 Server (if not installed yet)
  3. Create MSSQL 2008 Server login and database so login/password, name and size of the database are the same as on source MSSQL 2000/2005 Server.
  4. Perform restoration of new MSSQL 2008 database from the backup of source MSSQL 2000/2005 database:
    • Navigate to MSSQL 2008 Server > Database and click on the newly created database name;
    • Click the Upload button to upload backup file from FTP Server (downloaded on step 1) to the MSSQL 2008 Server;
    • Select the radio button next to backup;
    • Press Restore button.

Migrating database from MSSQL Server installed on one account to another MSSQL Server installed on different account

Note: if you would like to migrate the database from one account to another as is (so host, login/password remain the same), please request Support to do so.

  1. Create a backup of the source MSSQL Server database and download it to your FTP Server:
    • Navigate to HostPilot > MSSQL 2000/2005 Server > Databases;
    • Click on the name of the database you would like to migrate;
    • Specify name for the backup and press Backup button;
    • Select the radio button next to newly created backup file and press Download buttom to place the backup file to your FTP server
  2. Download backup from the FTP server of the source account to your local machine via FTP
  3. Upload backup from your local machine to FTP server of the target account via FTP
  4. Install a target MSSQL 2008 Server (if not installed yet)
  5. Create MSSQL 2008 Server login and database so login/password, name and size of the database are the same as on source MSSQL 2000/2005 Server.
  6. Perform restoration of new MSSQL 2008 database from the backup of source MSSQL 2000/2005 database:
    • Navigate to MSSQL 2008 Server > Database and click on the newly created database name;
    • Click the Upload button to upload backup file from FTP Server (uploaded on step 3) to the MSSQL 2008 Server;
    • Select the radio button next to backup;
    • Press Restore button.
