Outlook for Mac has 2 address lists in Address Book:

  • Accountname Directory: Offline cached copy of the address list. Due to the nature of the Exchange server, this might not show the recent changes made to the Global Address List
  • Directory LDAP: Allows to perform online Global Address list lookups. To use this list you need to configure Directory Service settings.

Address Books on Mac

Note: Outlook for Mac does not provide any functionality to view Global Address List (GAL) as a list. The only way to view GAL content is to perform a search. This will require configuring LDAP Directory as shown below.

To configure Directory Service:

  1. Navigate to Menu Bar > Tools > Accounts, select your Exchange account, click the plus sign + in the lower left-hand corner and choose Directory Service.
  2. Specify Directory service settings:
    • Make sure that the Override default port and Use SSL to connect (recommended) options are checked.
    • Change the port number to 636.
    • Specify LDAP server: directory.serverdata.net > click Add account
  3.  Navigate to Authentication and change it to User Name and Password.
    Change Authentication
    • Specify Username: only Distinguished Names (DNs) are supported.
      E.g: CN=Username@AccountName,OU=AccountName,OU=hosting,DC=exchXXX,DC=XXX,DC=XXX

Note: Make sure to replace Username in Username@AccountName (CN) with the first part of your email address (e.g. for test@1234.com under account Management the value would be test@Management). To find out the correct value for the Distinguished Name, navigate to HostPilot > Home > Exchange servers and settings > Setup email client > Outlook for Mac.
    • Password: regular end-user password for the mailbox.
    Click Advanced
    Authentication settings
  4. Type in your Search Base and click OK.
To find the correct settings for your account see the following table. The correct values depend on the Exchange Domain your account is located in. To find the Exchange Domain for your account, navigate to HostPilotĀ® Control Panel > Home > Exchange servers and settings.
