This article describes the way to migrate or backup the data from local file server to SecuriSync via File Server Sync application. Article applies to the small and medium amount of data (up to 1 TB). To onboard big amount of data (more than 1 TB), refer to the Knowledge Base article on Onboarding: Drive Shipping.

File Server Sync can be used in following scenarios:

The local file server is going to be decommisioned

In this example File Server Sync will replace the local file server.

The shared content can be viewed by users:

  • when downloaded to user's computer via desktop application
  • on mobile devices
  • via web interface

To replace your local file server with SecuriSync:

  1. Enable File Server Sync on the account. Note: charges may apply.
  2. Create the SecuriSync service user for the file server. Note: this is chargeable action.
  3. Enable SecuriSync service for every end-user. Note: this is chargeable action.
  4. Install File Server Sync application on your file server.
  5. Login to File Server Sync with credentials for service user.
  6. Map folders of your server with the desired locations on the SecuriSync cloud. You may want to create some folders on the $fileServer location. All subfolders will be created automatically.
  7. Login to the service user's SecuriSync web access.
  8. Share folders with SecuriSync users with desired permissions.

The local server will stay in place

The SecuriSync will be used as backup and external sharing solution for your local file server. 

The file server content can be viewed by users:

  • via connection to local file server
  • via web interface when loged as service user

To upload data from your local file server to SecuriSync:

  1. Enable File Server Sync on the account. Note: charges may apply.
  2. Create the SecuriSync service user for the file server. Note: this is chargeable action.
  3. Install FileServer Sync application on your file server.
  4. Login to File Server Sync with credentials for service user.
  5. Map folders of your server with the desired locations on the SecuriSync cloud. You may want to create some folders on the SecuriSync location. All subfolders will be created automatically.
  6. To restore or Share files, login to the service user's SecuriSync web access.
