Each mailbox has its Primary email address (UPN) and alias email addresses that can be used to receive mail, but not to send from. Your alias might vary from the Primary email address in the username part or domain name part. Read the Knowledge Base article on What Are Email Aliases for an Exchange Mailbox? for more information.

This article describes a workaround on how to send from your alias. Follow the instructions below for each user you need to be able to send from the alias.

  1. Log in to HostPilotĀ® Control Panel and navigate to Services > Mailboxes.
  2. Click Action next to the user in question and select Edit Email addresses:

  3. Remove the alias you want to send from and wait a couple of minutes:

  4. Navigate to Services > Distribution Lists and click Create New Distribution List.
  5. Specify the name and assign to this new Distribution list the previously deleted email address (former alias you want to send from):

    Note: If the error stating that the email address is already registered appears, it means that the alias has not yet been removed completely from our system. Try again in 5 minutes.

  6. Add the user in question as a member of this distribution list:

  7. Navigate to Support (top-right corner) and click Extended Service:
  8. In Extended Services portal select Grant Users Send As Permissions from a Distribution List. In order for the Send As permissions to work properly, make sure the account in an Exchange one. For a POP account, the From field of the message will say Username on behalf of Distribution List name. Note: You can submit the request to grant permissions to several users, but for one distribution list. For a different distribution list, submit another request.

  9. Fill in the necessary information and Submit Request.
  10. Wait for the request to be completed. We will assign necessary permissions for the user on our side.

You can now send from this address using Outlook or OWA (https://exchange.intermedia.net/ControlPanel/Login?ClientType=WebMail).

In Outlook 2010/2013/2016:

  1. Compose a New Email. Click the From field and select Other email address.
    • Note: If you do not see the From field, navigate to Options and select From in the section Show fields.
  2. Select the alias from the Global Address List or type the email address manually.
  3. Send the email from your alias.

  1. Compose a New Email. Click Options on the top.
  2. Check the box Show from and click OK.

  3. Click the From field and select Other email address.

  4. Select the alias from the Global Address List or type the email address manually.

In OWA 2013/2016:

  1. Compose a New Email. Click on Show From option.
  2. Click on your own email address, it will get selected, and press Delete keyboard button.
  3. Type in new alias email address manually in From field and send a test email.
  4. Next time you want to send a message using another address it will be available for selection in the drop-down for From field.
