When sending an email to a recipient with McAfee Email Protection, the sender can get the bounce back message '554 Denied'. The error message '554 Denied' means that McAfee Email Protection has rejected the message as spam. McAfee always has a legitimate reason for discarding emails. In most cases it is the sender's IP address being blacklisted or spam-like email content.
There are two ways to resolve it:
- Whitelisting a sender's domain or a sender address in the McAfee control panel. Read the section 'Allow/deny lists' in the Knowledge Base article McAfee Email Protection Policy Customization for instructions.
- Change the spam settings in the McAfee control panel to put all emails into quarantine instead of rejecting them. Read the section 'Spam policy' in the same Knowledge Base article McAfee Email Protection Policy Customization for instructions.
