The Intermedia Bring Your Own Phone (BYOP) feature provides the ability to supply your own SIP devices for use with Intermedia’s Hosted PBX service.  This feature may also be utilized to successfully configure SIP softphones for use with Hosted PBX. 

Note: A single Anyphone line has a maximum concurrent call capacity of 4 calls. Bria 4 will be able to have 4 concurrent calls.

The Bria 4 Softphone Setup for Hosted PBX Service


Once your AnyPhone device has been added to your service, log into the HostPilot and retrieve your device’s SIP credentials.  These credentials are required in order to configure Bria 4 to register itself with your Hosted PBX service. 

Locating your SIP Credentials

 

  1. Log into HostPilot
  2. Under the Services section, click on Voice Services Voice Services
  3. Select the Numbers & Extensions tab and locate your SIP device by looking for a device type, Extension number or specific DID.  AnyPhone devices may be provisioned as a type of ‘Generic SIP Phone’ which indicates this is a SIP phone with a voicemail box.

  4. Click on the SIP Configuration tab to locate your SIP credentials

Once you have located your device’s credentials, you will need to manually transcribe them into Bria.Different terminology is being used to describe the same basic SIP credentials:

Configuring The Windows Bria 4 Softphone

 

1. After installing the Bria 4 Softphone and running the software, Bria 4 will ask you to select  from a list of profiles to complete your login.  Select: 

    • I will manually input my account configuration

    Click the Continue button once selected.

 

2. Enter Bria license key.  You should have received this license key when you purchased the software.  Enter the license key in the top field and press the Add button.  Once added, click the Done button.

 

3. Click on the blue link to ‘Go to Account Settings’.

4. Once within Account Settings, provide specific information on the following tabs:

    • Account
    • Voicemail
    • Topology
    • Transport
    • Advanced

The Bria 4 Account tab is where you will provide the SIP credentials to make Bria 4 register with Intermedia’s network and function with your Hosted PBX service.  These SIP credentials are found in the previous section in this guide titled ‘Locating your SIP Credentials’.

Voicemail Tab

On the Bria 4 Voicemail tab, you will need to provide the values that Bria 4 requires to interact with your voicemail box.  This is accomplished by entering your assigned Extension number from Hosted PBX.  This is also the value from HostPilot in the ‘SIP User Name’ field.  Enter this value in:

  • The ‘Number to dial for checking voicemail’ field
  • The ‘Number for sending calls to voicemail’ field

Check the box ‘Send calls to voicemail if unanswered’ and enter a value 20 seconds.

The Bria 4 Transport tab informs Bria 4 how to better communicate with Intermedia’s network.  Intermedia recommends the following settings on this tab:

 Once finished, click the Ok button, then click the Ok button on the next screen.  Bria 4 should now register with Intermedia’s network.

Intermedia also recommends one specific preference settings within Bria 4.  To find Preferences, click on the Softphone menu and then select Preferences.

Next, click on the Calls section in Preferences, and ensure that the option to ‘Preserve bandwidth during silent periods’ is NOT checked.

Your Bria 4 windows softphone should now be configured for optimal use with Intermedia’s Hosted PBX service.

 

Configuring The Mac Bria 4 Softphone

1.After installing the Bria 4 Softphone, launch the application.  Click on the blue link for Account Settings. 

2.Click on the + in the lower left corner and select New SIP Account.

3. A new SIP account window will open allowing you to enter configuration information for Bria 4.  You will need to provide information for Bria on the following tabs:

    • General
    • Voicemail
    • Topology
    • Transport
    • Advanced

The Bria 4 General tab is where you will provide the SIP credentials to make Bria 4 register with Intermedia’s network and function with your Hosted PBX service.  These SIP credentials are found in the previous section in this guide titled ‘Locating your SIP Credentials’.

Intermedia Hosted PBX supports specific voice codecs, thus we recommend removing any unsupported codecs in the Codecs section.  To remove a codec, highlight it and press the arrow button.  Ensure the selected codecs are only:

  • G.729
  • G711 uLaw
