Project Online/Web App for Microsoft 365

By default, an end-user assigned a Project Online Professional license will not have the appropriate roles/permissions to access Project Web App. They will receive an error similar to the one below when attempting to access Project Web App from their Office Online Portal:

Project Web App

We will first need to create an admin account for the customer to use to administer their Project Web Apps/users. In this case, we will want to grant the PWA/User SharePoint Administrator roles.

User SharePoint Administrator

Note* If the user with SharePoint Admin roles does not have a Project Online License (or a license which includes Project Online) they will receive an error that they don't have a license to use Project Web App when accessing from Office Admin portal).

Next, the PWA Administrator will add users with licenses to Project Online to the appropriate groups on the PWA home page in order for them to access the site.  To do this follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the PWA site you want to add users too.
  2. Click the SHARE link in the upper right of the page under your user name.
  3. Add the user account here.  The user will receive the default permissions of Contribute when you click Share
  4. If you want to assign a different level or permissions, click SHOW OPTIONS to Select a group or permission level.  Then click Share

Alternate method to Share the site:

  1. Click the gear in the upper right of the page at the right of your user name and click Shared with...
  2. You can use INVITE PEOPLE  which is the same as using the SHARE link above or click ADVANCED
